When you stay at Casa de Los Espejos, you are staying in one of the best neighborhoods in the Centro Historico of Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan in Mexico. Merida has the largest Centro Historico of any city in Latin America; the only larger Centro is in Mexico City. That means that there are hundreds of picturesque streets to wander, lined with colonial buildings in various states of renovation, disrepair and renaissance. At Casa de Los Espejos, you will be in the middle of the Santa Ana neighborhood, one of the wealthiest sections of Merida at the turn of the 20th Century, and now one of the first barrios where home after home is being renovated to its former glory.

A seven block walk south and east will bring you to the Plaza Grande, the very center of the Centro Historico. There, you can see Merida's largest cathedral, our Planetarium, the Governor's Palace with it's murals by Francisco Pacheco, sip coffee drinks in one of the cafes around the square, browse the Dante bookshop, shop for mementos or just sit in the park and watch the world go by. If you are there on Sunday, you can also enjoy Domingo en Merida, our weekly street fair that sells handmade goods, food and much more.

A few blocks walk east from Casa de Los Espejos will take you to the famous Paseo de Montejo, Merida's answer to the Champs d'Elyseés. There is nothing nicer than a morning or evening stroll along the Paseo, enjoying both the turn-of-the-century mansions along the way and the sculpture exhibit installed along the sidewalk. On Sunday mornings, Merida's fine artists sell their original art at very reasonable prices. If you strollto the end of the Art Fair, you'll find yourself across the street from the Hyatt Regency, the Holiday Inn, the Fiesta Americana and WalMart shopping center.

Casa de Los Espejos, with its mixture of restored and treasured architecture and modern design elements, embodies the reality of Merida in the 21st Century. The city exudes history at every turn, but also provides all the comforts and many of the luxuries that travelers will enjoy.

A few blocks south of Casa de Los Espejos, Santiago Park provides a daily mercado, Tuesday night dancing under the stars to live Big Band music, a lovely church and garden, and a few restaurants, most notably the Villa Maria Restaurant, Merida's most elegant (but very comfortable) dining experience.

There is something for everyone in Merida. There are golf clubs, parks, a zoo, multiple museums and the Yucatecan and Maya cultures which are unique in all the world.

We know you will enjoy your vacation in Merida, and staying at Casa de Los Espejos will just make it that much better.
